Given this general trend in the industry, coupled with the way Disturbed has slowed down significantly in the past 5 years - and even voiced the intention that they want to work less, i.e. I’m not sure how I feel about this with Disturbed, but I’m not really surprised by it. The album was focused and engaging from top to bottom, although I will admit pacing suffered a little (very little room to just let the music breathe). Meanwhile, Korn put out the shortest album of their career earlier this year clocking at about 33 minutes, and that was a great move by them at this moment. Some acts still put out long albums to great success, like Slipknot’s upcoming album next week is about an hour long, and that still works for them. I’m not trying to say this is universal, or even make a value judgment on it necessarily.
